Mr Anderson has over 30 years' experience in rural fire services, first as Executive Director Administration and Finance with the RFS, and then as Policy and Governance Advisor with the Rural Fire Service Association (RFSA). In 1996 Mr Anderson was awarded the Public Service Medal for outstanding public service. In 1999 Mr Anderson was the recipient of the RFS Commissioner's Commendation for outstanding administrative leadership and exemplary performance at a statewide level, and in 2007 received the Australian Fire Service Medal for distinguished service. Mr Anderson is a longstanding advocate for the wellbeing of volunteers and brings skills in administration, public policy, board experience and a strong understanding of the not-for-profit sector.
